Fiscal Discipline

Fiscal discipline and responsible administration is how Prince George’s County wins. Like you, I was taken aback by the news of Governor Moore taking time out of his busy legislative schedule to police our own County Council.

The 4th District should expect better.

Building strong, affordable communities where families and small businesses can thrive is difficult and serious work. Achieving our goals requires thoughtful planning, faithful discipline, and informed judgement. Residents expect that when funds are collected for a specific purpose—like parks, recreation, and long-term planning—they will be used for that purpose. When those funds are redirected midstream, without the transparency and rigor of the budget process, it undermines public confidence and raises red flags to any diligent investor.

Budgets are about priorities, but they’re also about trust. Flexibility has its place, but without guardrails, flexibility can quickly turn into inconsistency—and inconsistency leads to instability.

If we want to protect affordability in District 4—especially for seniors and working families—we need to get serious about how we manage public dollars. Every unexpected shift, every short-term fix, increases the risk of long-term costs being passed on to residents.

Good governance means making tough choices the right way, not the easy way.

As we move forward, we need leadership that understands that economic development and affordability depend on trust—trust that your government will spend wisely, plan ahead, and keep its commitments.

Because in the end, accountability isn’t a barrier to progress. It’s how we make sure progress lasts.
